Students of Bajaj Institute of Technology (BIT), Wardha, won the coveted first prize in the Software Edition of the National Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2023 held from December 19 to 23, 2023. Team Eco_Warriors led by Gaurav N Jikar, a student of second year Computer Engineering at BIT, Wardha won a prize money of Rs. One Lakh providing a solution to the problem statement of the Ministry of Environment. The groundbreaking solution that won first prize was a result of the collaborative efforts of team members, Amar M. Jayswal, Muktai N. Jibhakate, Kunal K. Salankar, Parth A. Gayakwad, all second-year computer engineering students, and Sahil B. Dhanvij, a second-year Mechanical Engineering student at BIT, Wardha.
Smart India Hackathon 2023, a national-level competition, invites students from across the nation to propose solutions to problem statements provided by various ministries and corporate. The organizing committee of SIH, with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan as patrons, along with several other ministers as co-patrons, reflects the prestige of the event. The competition was organized in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education and the Ministry of Education’s innovation cell, with official partners including HERO and AWS (Amazon Web Services), and All India Radio and Doordarshan as media partners.
Ten teams participated from BIT, Wardha, with 60 students representing the institute in the final round of SIH 2023, held at nodal centers across India, including Bangalore (Karnataka), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Greater Noida (UP), Durg (Chhattisgarh), and Bhopal (MP). The hackathon, known for its rigorous nature, unfolded continuously for 36 hours for the software edition and 5 days for the hardware edition, in presence of mentors and judges providing a distinct exposure to the students. SIH 2023 featured two editions – hardware and software – spanning eighteen different themes, including Smart Vehicles, Clean and Green Technology, Smart Education, Disaster Management, and Smart Automation etc. Earlier in SIH 2021 BIT had ranked fourth at National level with its six teams securing first position in the competition.
Dr. Narendra Kanhe, Principal of Bajaj Institute of Technology, congratulated the winning team, commending their ingenuity and dedication. He also appreciated the efforts of all participating students, highlighting the institute’s commitment to fostering innovative thinking. Chairman Shri Sanjay Bhargava echoed his praise, recognizing the students’ accomplishments as a testament to BIT’s commitment to excellence in education and innovation. The institute looks forward to more groundbreaking achievements on the national stage.
