In a phenomenal display of sporting excellence, Bajaj Institute of Technology (BIT), Wardha dominated the DBATU Nagpur Zonal Inter-Collegiate Sports Tournament 2025–26, winning 8 out of 10 events it participated in — the highest number of victories by any college in the tournament. This remarkable performance made BIT the top-performing institution of the zonal championship and reaffirmed its status as one of the most competitive and successful institutes in university sports across the region.
The tournament, conducted annually by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (DBATU), Lonere, featured major sporting categories including Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Swimming, Chess, Boxing, Athletics and other events, attracting strong participation from engineering and pharmacy colleges across the entire Nagpur zone. With diverse institutions contesting for top honours, the competitive environment was exceptionally tough. The zonal tournament was held after rigorous college-level selections, ensuring that only the best athletes from each college competed at this stage.
BIT Wardha’s highest achievements came in Swimming and Boxing, where students qualified for the All-India Inter-University Championships. In Swimming, Arnav Salve delivered an extraordinary performance by securing 1st place in the 50m, 100m, and 200m Butterfly events, earning his place at the All-India Inter-University Swimming Competition to be held at SRM University, Chennai. In Boxing, Saksham Deshmukh clinched 1st place in the 70–75 kg category and will represent DBATU at the All-India Inter-University Boxing Tournament at Kurukshetra University, Haryana.
BIT also registered outstanding victories in Basketball, securing top positions in both the Boys’ and Girls’ categories. The BIT Girls’ Basketball Team emerged as Winners among four competing teams, with an impressive lineup featuring Sneha Domkawale, Shrushti Sharma, Shweta Jeswani, Maithili Revtakar, Astha Bhurmuse, Sonali Gomase, Pradnya Bangde, Harshada Taksande, Astha Karode, Tanvi Bajait, Dhanashree Rahate, Swejal Bele, and Prachi Wagh. Continuing this strong momentum, the BIT Boys’ Basketball Team clinched the Winner’s title among six teams, led by exceptional players Chetan Kamdi, Nishant Ankar, Yash Ugemuge, Samir Tajne, Bhavya Bhoware, Gaurav Chandak, Sauf Khan, Rudraksh Bhoyar, Homen Varghane, and Mrudul Lokhande.
BIT further excelled with multiple selections for the State Level Inter-Zonal University Teams. In Table Tennis (Men), the BIT team—Om Gode, Aarya Singhania, and Anvay Sakalkale—secured the Winner’s position, with all three qualifying for the State Level tournament. In Table Tennis (Women), Harsha Gandhi secured 1st place and was selected for the state-level team.
In Badminton (Men), BIT delivered a rare feat by securing both Winner and Runner-up positions. The team—Bhavya Bhoware, Ojas Kidilay, Harsh Tidke, and Gaurav Chandak—performed exceptionally well, and Ojas Kidilay earned selection to the State Inter-Zonal Badminton team. In Badminton (Women), Vedika Dandade, Suhani Gaikwad, and Anushka Durugkar clinched the Winner’s trophy, with Vedika Dandade selected for the state-level team.
BIT’s excellence continued in Volleyball (Women), where the Girls’ Team secured 1st place. The winning squad included Suhani Gaikwad, Pranali Bobade, Tanushree Kukadkar, Anushka Durugkar, Dnyaneshwari Mandhare, Nikita Belekar, Shravani Machale, and Samiksha Balbudhe, with Tanushree Kukadkar selected for the State Level Inter-Zonal Volleyball Tournament.
In Chess (Women), BIT secured two podium finishes with Vaibhavi Patil (1st place) and Tamanna Sheikh (3rd place), both selected for the State Inter-Zonal Chess Team.
In Athletics, the BIT Boys’ Team comprising Tanishq Bagde, Om Badlamwar, Shaksham Deshmukh, and Arnav Kopulwar secured 3rd place in the 4×100m Relay, performing commendably among 14 competing teams.
All victories were achieved under the expert guidance of Mr. Nitin Ghode, Sports Director at BIT, a recipient of the Gunwant Krida Margadarshak Puraskar and an accredited National Games referee. His dedicated mentorship strengthened BIT’s sporting spirit.
Principal Dr. Narendra Kanhe praised the players for bringing glory to BIT and highlighted how their discipline, teamwork, and determination reflect the institute’s commitment to holistic development. Chairman Shri Sanjay Bhargava also congratulated the students, expressing pride in their achievements and reaffirming Shiksha Mandal’s continued support for promoting sports culture and excellence. Head of the Departments and faculty also lauded both the winning and the participating students.
With stellar victories and strong state and national-level selections, BIT Wardha has reaffirmed itself as one of the most competitive and successful institutions in university sports across the region.
