BIT Wardha Shines at Smart India Hackathon 2025

Bajaj Institute of Technology (BIT), Wardha has once again established its national innovation credentials with an outstanding performance in the final results of the National Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025, securing two Winners and one first Runner-Up position at the prestigious national-level competition organized by the Ministry of Education and AICTE. This remarkable achievement follows BIT Wardha’s earlier distinction of ranking 7th at the All-India level with the maximum number of selections, as 10 teams from the institute were qualified for the SIH 2025 grand finale, placing BIT among the country’s top innovation-driven institutions.

At the national finals, team Tech Pravaha from BIT Wardha emerged as the winner in the software category for a problem statement issued by the Government of Punjab. The team developed a ‘Gamified Environmental Education Platform for Schools and Colleges,’ offering an engaging digital solution to promote environmental awareness through interactive learning. The project was mentored by Prof. Sheetal Kale and Assistant Professor Sandesh Jain. The team was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh for its impactful and scalable solution.

Adding to the institute’s success, team Nephron was declared winner in the hardware category for a problem statement presented by the Government of Kerala. The team  ‘Earthquake-Stabilised Dialysis System for Patient Safety During Seismic Events,’ mentored by faculties Dr. Harshad Phadke and  Dr. Vikas Thakur, earned  the first prize.

Further strengthening BIT Wardha’s national presence, team SortWaste secured the first runner-up position in the hardware category for a problem statement provided by Autodesk. Their solution, titled ‘Use Fusion Software to Generate NC Code with Machine Details and Tool Library for Any Industrial Component,’ demonstrated advanced application of industrial software for manufacturing automation. The team was guided by Mr. Ranjit Katkar.

The National Smart India Hackathon, one of India’s largest innovation platforms, featured 271 problem statements sourced from leading ministries and national organizations such as the Ministry of Health, Indian Railways, Ministry of Defence, DRDO, ISRO, TATA, and others, while permitting a maximum of 50 team entries per institution. BIT Wardha utilized all 50 permitted entries, reflecting the institute’s strong culture of project-based learning, innovation-led pedagogy, and multidisciplinary problem-solving. The hackathon aims to encourage students to design practical, real-world solutions through research, creativity, and teamwork.

The entire SIH initiative at BIT Wardha was coordinated by Assistant Professor Sandesh Jain.

Congratulating the students on their national success, Dr. Narendra Kanhe, Principal of BIT Wardha, praised the teams and their mentors for translating innovative ideas into award-winning solutions and stated that the achievements reflect the institute’s commitment to experiential learning and national relevance. Chairman of Shiksha Mandal, Shri Sanjay Bhargava, also commended the students and faculty, expressing confidence that BIT Wardha will continue to emerge as a leading centre of innovation, research, and technology-driven education in Maharashtra and across the country.
